Reservoir Hill Wins TUANZ Mobile Application of the Year Award
Mobile marketing leader Run The Red is celebrating a major win with KHF Media after winning the ‘TUANZ Innovation Award – Mobile Application of the Year’ for the interactive online drama Reservoir Hill.
Reservoir Hill follows the complicated life of teenager Beth Connolly and explores issues faced by teens. By cleverly combining several types of media – TV drama, SMS and the Internet, the show allows the tech-savvy ‘Twilight generation’ to communicate with Beth via text and online.
The TUANZ judges commented: ‘A highly interactive multiplatform product with significant export potential and a high level of telecommunication input.’
The award tops off a great year for Reservoir Hill after the series won New Zealand’s first International Emmy, in Cannes, France in April this year.
Run The Red developed the mobile functionality that was pivotal to the show’s interactive success. It allows viewers to interact and actively participate in steering the storyline by texting Beth, the show’s main character.
Not only did viewer’s text and web comments help create the ‘alternate reality’, but viewer’s actively drove the storyline with selected text messages being integrated into the weekly storyline.
More than 5,000 viewers engaged with the show by text or by online mobile phone simulator.
KHF Media created the web-based show in association with TVNZ and New Zealand on Air. Reservoir Hill screened online in New Zealand on TVNZ On Demand from October to December last year. The second series of Reservoir Hill – Everyone Lies, starts Monday September 13th on TVNZ On Demand.
“The mixture of drama and SMS technology is highly innovative and Run The Red were a great partner in developing this quite unique application. It was crafted in a way that integrated our story and video postproduction process with Run The Red’s technology”, said KHF Media Director David Stubbs.
