Modica Group: GDPR Privacy Update

GDPR. Everyone is talking about it, in one form or another. That’s because it will change the way companies collect, store and use EU residents’ data. It’s also sparked a wider discussion about data protection and privacy globally. If you haven’t heard anything more than the acronym, here’s an overview.

What, when and how?

The new GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) replaces the Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC and was designed to harmonize data privacy laws across Europe, to protect and empower all EU residents’ data privacy and to reshape the way organizations across the region approach data privacy. It will be coming into effect on May 25th 2018.

But, what does this mean for you?

This regulation has been created so that everyone in the EU has the right to have their personal data protected and deleted if they’d like it to be. Here at Modica Group, we believe everyone has this right. So we’re enhancing our privacy protection to make sure all our customers have the same data protection rights as EU residents.

What specifically are we doing about GDPR?

We’re currently becoming GDPR compliant by implementing a new privacy programme and structure across our business to ensure our customers’ data is protected.

This includes:‍‍

·     Planning policy and product changes, specifically around data access, management and portability;

·     Updating our privacy terms to ensure enhanced transparency;

·     Setting up a Data Protection Governance Structure and appointing a Data Protection Officer

While doing this we’re also closely following the developing interpretations and guidelines on key provisions of the GDPR andwe are adapting our plans accordingly.
