Supporting Little Miracles on World Prematurity Day
We're thrilled to announce a heartwarming partnership between Modica and The Little Miracles Trust, a charity that provides critical support to families in New Zealand with premature and unwell babies. Every year, over 5,000 families across Aotearoa find themselves navigating the complexities of neonatal intensive care units (NICU) and special care baby units (SCBU). This partnership aims to make a meaningful difference in the lives of these families by raising awareness and contributing to essential resources.
Why This Partnership Matters
Every 90 minutes, a baby is born needing specialised neonatal care in New Zealand. That’s approximately one in every ten babies. For these families, life changes in an instant, often leading to weeks, months, or even years of challenges. The Little Miracles Trust stands as a pillar of support, not just in the hospital but well beyond. From emergency care packs provided at the start of a family's journey to ongoing support after discharge, The Trust offers services designed to make this difficult time a little easier.
This World Prematurity Day, on 17 November, we’re calling on everyone to help spread awareness of these important needs. In addition to raising awareness, we’re also joining forces with Little Miracles Trust to provide donation opportunities for all New Zealanders.

About The Little Miracles Trust
The Little Miracles Trust is New Zealand’s national charity focused on supporting the families of premature and unwell babies. The charity offers a range of essential services, including:
- Emergency Care Packs: Each of the 5,000 families entering NICU or SCBU receives an emergency care pack.
- Cot-Side Family Peer Support: Trust volunteers spend thousands of hours providing peer support directly at NICU units.
- Food and Fuel Assistance: For families doing it tough, the Trust provides food, petrol vouchers, and access to community meals.
- Transition and Playgroups: To ease the transition home, a national network of playgroups provides ongoing support, including access to paediatric physiotherapists and other experts.
Marking World Prematurity Day
On World Prematurity Day, The Little Miracles Trust will be hosting morning teas across New Zealand’s NICU and SCBU units, and thanks to the kindness of bakers nationwide, these events will bring communities together in a shared mission. As a visual reminder of the cause, more than 60 landmarks across Aotearoa will be “Lighting Up Purple” to honour the 13 million babies born prematurely worldwide each year.
We’re incredibly proud to stand with The Little Miracles Trust in their mission to support families of NICU and SCBU babies, and we invite everyone in the Modica community to contribute, whether by sharing this post, spreading awareness, or making a donation. Together, we can make a difference for these families and help bring hope to some of New Zealand’s most vulnerable little ones.
Together, we can make a difference.
